No ads, no tracking
meteoReach shows no ads, uses no analytics or tracking services and sells no data.
Your account
For an account I store your email address, your name (optional) and your password. I store the password only as a hash, never as plain text. I also store the confirmation of your email address, the version of the disclaimer that you accepted, the time of your last login and of your last password change, and your settings. When you ask for a new password, I store a link that works for one hour; against abuse, the server keeps your IP address in memory for one minute.
I need these data to give you the account and to sign you in.
Reports and subscriptions
When you create a forecast, I store the report in your account: the location name, the coordinates, the elevations and the forecast data. For a subscription I also store the time, the date range, the timezone and, if you choose it, the email address for delivery.
The app reads your current position only when you choose it as the location and you gave the permission. I use the coordinates only for the forecast at that location.
inReach devices
For Auto-Send I store the name of the device and the reply address that Garmin sends with the activation message. The forecast goes to your device as a text message through the Garmin service.
I receive the messages that you send from the device to meteoReach (activation code, support requests) by email.
Support and contact
I store support requests with the name, email address, messages and attachments in your account. The contact form sends your input to me by email and does not store it in the database. Against abuse, the server keeps the IP address of the sender in memory for a short time.
On your device
The mobile app stores your sign-in, your reports and your settings on the device, so that it works offline. The web app sets a cookie for the sign-in. A sign-in ends after 90 days without use. The web app stores the language and the color scheme in the browser. I set no cookies for ads or statistics.
Third-party services
Your browser and your app talk only to the meteoReach server. For weather data, maps and place names, the meteoReach server asks Open-Meteo, OpenTopoMap, meteoblue, Photon and Nominatim. It sends them only search terms and coordinates, never your IP address or details of your account.
For Auto-Send, the forecast goes to your inReach device through the Garmin service. Garmin processes the message, also in the USA.
When you download the app, the terms of Apple and Google apply.
Where the data are
The meteoReach server with the database is in Switzerland. The mail server is in Germany. Garmin processes the messages for your inReach device also in the USA. This transfer is necessary to do the delivery that you start.
How long I keep data
- Account, subscriptions, devices and support requests: until you delete your account.
- Reports: until the end of the period that you choose in the settings (1 to 30 days, 7 days by default). The server deletes older reports the next time you load your report list.
- Technical logs of the server (IP address, time, request): 14 days, only for operation and troubleshooting. Then the server deletes them.
Delete your account
You can delete your account yourself at any time: in the web app under «Account», in the mobile app under «Profile». The server then deletes your account and all of its data at once. The app also removes the copies of your reports from the device. Reports that you received by inReach stay on the device until you delete them yourself.
Your rights
You can ask which data I have about you, correct wrong data and have data deleted. Write to impressum@meteoreach.com. You can also complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), or in the EU to the supervisory authority of your country.
Changes
I update this policy when meteoReach changes. The version on this page applies.
