Disclaimer and limitation of liability

Please read this text. It says what meteoReach does, what it does not do, and what you carry yourself.

1. What meteoReach is

meteoReach is a tool. It fetches weather model data, shows it, saves it as a report, and can compress it into Garmin inReach satellite messages. That is all it does.

2. No recommendation, no decision

meteoReach does not tell you whether to start a tour, turn around or continue. It gives no recommendation and no assessment of a route, of conditions or of your ability. It replaces neither a mountain guide, an avalanche bulletin, official warnings, nor your own judgement. You make the decision, and you carry the responsibility for it.

3. Weather data

The data comes from third parties, among them Open-Meteo with the models of NOAA, DWD and ECMWF. A forecast is a model calculation, not a measurement of the future. It can be wrong, incomplete, out of date, or unsuitable for your exact location, and it can differ strongly from the weather you meet. No warranty is given for correctness, completeness or timeliness.

4. Availability and third parties

There is no promised availability. The web app, the app, your account, subscriptions, email and Auto-Send can fail at any time, be delayed, deliver incomplete content, or be stopped without notice. The same applies to services outside my control, among them Garmin inReach, the Iridium satellite network, email delivery and the data sources. A message can arrive late, arrive incomplete, or never arrive.

5. Not an emergency system

meteoReach is not an emergency, safety or rescue system. Never rely on a message arriving. In an emergency use the SOS function of your device and the responsible rescue services.

6. Mountain activities

Tours in the mountains are dangerous and can lead to serious injury or death. You assess conditions, equipment, ability and turnaround points yourself, and you take the risk yourself.

7. Beta

meteoReach is in a beta phase. Features can change, behave incorrectly or disappear. Reports and data can be lost. Do not keep anything here as your only copy.

8. Liability

You use meteoReach at your own risk. Liability for damage arising from the use of meteoReach, from its results, or from it being unavailable, is excluded as far as the law allows. Liability for intent and gross negligence remains.

9. Changes to this text

This disclaimer can change. A new version is asked to be accepted again, and the current one always stands on this page.

10. Applicable law and binding version

Swiss law applies. The place of jurisdiction is Bern, Switzerland, as far as the law allows. The German version of this text is binding; the English one is a translation.
